Barcelona – Airport and city travel

Barcelona Placa Espanya

How to get from Barcelona Airport to the city center

Metro to Barcelona Airport L9 Metro link

The L9 metro link connects Barcelona Airport to the city center. There are two stops at Barcelona airport which are called: Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2. The airport metro service operates to the same hours as the normal metro system.

You cannot use zone 1 metro tickets for this journey! You need to purchase a separate ticket. When you change the metro in Barcelona city center, you need to purchase valid zone 1 tickets.
Single ticket: €4.60

Aerobus – Express Bus service

They have stations in front of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. These buses stop in Barcelona city center either in Plaça España or Plaça de Catalunya. You can switch there to regular mero lines and continue your journey.

The price is the same if you take the bus from either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2:

Single Ticket: €5.90
Return Ticket: €10.20
Return Ticket Valid: 15 days

Do not misplace the ticket in case you buy return ticket as well, from the airport.

Barcelona airport to city center

TMB Bus – Number 26

This bus travels during the day to both airport terminals. However it takes longer than the Aerobus, since it has more stops. The advantage is that you can use the T10 (zone 1) tickets on this bus. Read more about the T10 tickets below. Single Ticket: €2.20.

RENFE Train

From the airport to the city center you can get off at Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gràcia or Clot which are serviced by metro stops. From these you can change for the Barcelona metro system to go to your final destination.

Single ticket: €4.60. You can use for this journey also the T10 tickets described below.

How to travel through Barcelona

T10 tickets

My recommendation is to use the T10 tickets which cost € 10.2 (single ticket cost € 2.2, so you effectively save € 11.8!).

The advantage of this ticket is on the one hand side the flexibility and on the other hand side, you can share this ticket with your travel companion! 1 or more persons can use the same metro line ticket and when the 10 journeys are over you can repurchase another ticket. For example with the normal day passes this is not possible, since the ticket is not transferable.

Bonus: You can use this ticket on the RENFE train and TMB line to the airport, as mentioned above.

You can purchase the tickets online using the following link: https://www.tmb.cat/en/barcelona-fares-metro-bus/single-and-integrated/purchase-tickets-online.

Otherwise you can also buy them at the entrance to any metro lines.

Barcelona city passes

Barcelona city pass

…the touristic option of travelling through Barcelona. Don’t get me wrong, I think its offering some nice bonuses… But it is a bit overpriced in my opinion, especially when I compare it to the T10 tickets above.

Option 1: Basic City Pass: Includes express entry tickets for Sagrada Família and Park Güell, Sightseeing Hop on Hop off tourist Bus and the Aerobus express bus that runs to and from Barcelona airport to the city centre.

Price: € 76.5 with 1 day hop-on hop off bus

Option 2: City Pass with Sagrada Família tour: This pass is the same as the Basic City Pass however you would have an additional guided tour of Sagrada Família.

Price: € 80 with 1 day hop on hop off

Option 3: City Pass with Sagrada Família towers: This pass is the same as the Basic City Pass but your ticket also includes access to visit the Sagrada Família towers.

Price: € 80 with 1 day hop on hop off

You can find and book your preferred city passes here.

I have also put together a guide of free museums and things you absolutely cannot miss in Barcelona.

Enjoy your stay and I help you found this information helpful. Leave me a comment and I will be sure to respond!
