Santorini: Best restaurants and taverns

Fira sunset

You little gourmand, you! But you’re in luck, in Greece the food is amazing and don’t worry, Santorini will not disappoint. Here you can find also some other useful things to know before you go to Santorini,

Here are my top recommendations for restaurants and tavernas in Santorni.

Taverna Katina– Amoudi

It is located in Amoudi Bay, near Oia. It is one of the oldest taverns in Amoudi, and dates to the 80s. You can choose your freshly caught fish from a display case  and they filet it and cook it for you. Fish and seafood is amazing at this taverna and the stuff is friendly and prices are mid-range. I would also recommend the white table wine, as it is very good and goes perfectly with the fish.

1800- Oia

This restaurant is located in Oia, in an authentic captain’s house from 1845. The location preserved most of its authenticity and decorations (including the old captain’s travel chest). The setting is memorable, with a beautiful terrace overlooking the caldera. The wine list is amazing!

1800, Central Pedestrian Street, Oia, Santorini, Greece

Pito Gyros – Oia

Granted this is not a restaurant in it’s fullest… however I have eaten here the best souvlaki ever! A bit of traditional Greek street food never hurt anybody . The best about it is, that you can take it to go and find your prefect viewing spot in Oia, where you will have a memorable dinner (or lunch, as you want).

Koukoumavlos – Fira

Ok, I admit..this is more on the fine dinning side and also on the pricy side (), but the cuisine is award-winning modern Aegean cuisine and the setting has of course the mandatory view over the caldera. It also offers a degustation menu for 82 EUR a person (excluding drinks). I said to myself: why not…it’s just one night and believe me it was worth it. They have really interesting combinations of seafood with exotic fruits. It will entice the gourmand in you for sure !

Argo – Fira

A moderately priced, excellent food type of restaurant. I had the seafood mixed plate and it was absolutely great! It doesn’t have the best view, but the food compensates for it for sure!

Karma – Oia

The setting of this restaurant was very charming, this is why I also spontaneously choose it during my evening walk. It doesn’t have a view, but it has a beautiful garden and it offers a lot of intimacy. It’s one of the best places to eat in Oia, in my opinion. It got a bit more busy during the evening, so if you are a more late dinner, I recommend a reservation.

Metaxy Mas – Pyrgos

This restaurant has the most amazing atmosphere and really authentic local cuisine. The location is awesome, with view on Kamari Beach, and the food is great! Do not miss this place!
